Bexley Beaumont Adds Weight to New Legal Industry Mental Health Campaign

As one of the founding members, Bexley Beaumont are proud to be a part of LawCare's The 25 Club. Our CIO and registered charity, BBFoundation is supporting this initiative to provide financial backing to LawCare, allowing it to plan and deliver a new ambitious strategy as they look to the next 25 years. This also coincides with the launch this year of our hugely important internal programme, BBWellbeing.

Bexley Beaumont has become one of the founding supporters of a new campaign to improve mental health in the law profession.

The firm is one of the first five to back The 25 Club, an initiative launched by the UK's legal industry's largest mental health charity, LawCare.

It aims to bring together organisations determined to tackle the considerable negative impact of poor mental health on individuals working in the sector.

Comprehensive research by LawCare in 2021 revealed that more than two-thirds of lawyers reported having experienced mental health problems in the course of the previous year.

Bexley Beaumont's co-founder and Chief Executive, Karen Bexley, explained that the firm had signed up because of the strength of its commitment to addressing the issue for its own staff.

“We’re incredibly proud to be one of those organisations helping LawCare to get The 25 Club off the ground.

"We already know just how important it is to provide the right environment and infrastructure to promote good mental health, not just in the workplace but away from the office too.

"Since we opened our doors, Bexley Beaumont has done its utmost to encourage a constructive climate through our own initiatives to foster collaboration between the team.

"The work undertaken by LawCare since it began is rightly recognised as very important.

"We hope that The 25 Club will encourage even more firms who share that vision to make their own contributions in order to allow LawCare to expand its efforts.

"I am convinced that, together, we can break down stigma, create real support systems and make a lasting difference.”

LawCare was established in 1997 and offers free, confidential emotional support, peer support, and information for people working in legal sector in the UK, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

Its latest impact report showed that it helped a record 1,037 practising and retired solicitors, barristers, legal executives and law students during 2024 - an increase of 13 per cent on the previous year and a rise of almost one-quarter since 2021.

LawCare's Chief Executive, Elizabeth Rimmer, said: “The legal sector can be tough and, too often, people suffer in silence when it comes to mental health. We want to change that.

"By joining the 25 Club, you’re not just supporting LawCare - you’re helping to build a legal sector where talking about mental health is normal and getting help is easy.”

Bexley Beaumont's support for The 25 Club is the latest example of its desire to change the way in which legal practices operate for the benefit of lawyers, clients and the wider community alike.

Last year, the firm launched its own charitable foundation to allow community projects nationwide to share in its success.

The BBFoundation followed earlier exhaustive and exhausting charitable activities, including walking, riding and cycling a total of more than 2,000 kilometres across the UK on behalf of the mental health charity, MIND.

Ms Bexley has described how the Foundation as one of a series of "cornerstone ventures" for Bexley Beaumont.

Other significant steps have included the setting up internal initiatives - BBConnect and BBAcquire - to facilitate respectively collaboration between those of its lawyers specialising in different legal disciplines and business development.

The ventures are regarded as part of the reason why Bexley Beaumont has become so popular with many of the country's most experienced legal professionals.

Last November, Bexley Beaumont topped an influential growth ranking compiled by by Codex Edge, a specialist legal market research company, for the second year in a row.

The study by found that Bexley Beaumont's partner ranks across all its service areas grew by 60 per cent during 2024.

The firm appointed 15 new partners last year and now numbers 74 partners in total across the country.

It was also named as one of the joint winners in the UK Business of the Year category at the International Brilliance Awards in London.

The title was one of eight claimed by those organisations considered by judges to "have made significant contributions in their fields, demonstrating leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence".
