Zafar trained and qualified at international law firm DLA Piper and after 7 years relocated and joined Gateley Plc. He then moved to DWF (formerly Cobbetts LLP) as a partner into the Corporate Services team and as National Head of Business Restructuring for 10 years. Zafar has also operated his own legal advisory business for over a decade.

Zafar specialises in and has decades of experience in business restructuring; refinancing; turnaround and corporate insolvency. He advises on recovery strategies to the management of companies who are suffering from financial/operational underperformance.

Zafar also advises corporate debtors and their boards of directors; insolvency office holders; secured lenders and creditors on all aspects of corporate restructuring and insolvency work. He has a remarkable breadth of experience (crossing numerous disciplines) and has acted on a wide range of workouts, reorganisations; confidential restructurings, stressed financings; distressed lending; business acquisitions & disposals and CVA’s, administrations, receiverships and liquidations.

He has acted on an array of high-profile matters across numerous sectors including construction; engineering; automotive; logistics; insurance; hospitality; retail & leisure and music and fashion.

Zafar has continued to teach delegates from international and national firms through BPP Professional for almost a decade on secured lending; effective security techniques and enforcement; directors’ duties; reorganisations; TUPE and private equity & venture capital.

Outside of work he spends his time with his family and enjoys travelling, football and swimming.
